On August 30th, Hurricane Idalia made landfall along Florida’s Gulf Coast, causing heavy flooding that submerged homes, vehicles, and businesses, as well as the evacuation order for thousands of people. It was the strongest storm to make landfall in the Big Bend region in more than 125 years as it briefly intensified to a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 130 mph before weakening slightly. We saw many people seek help on GoFundMe to help them recover from this destruction. The hurricane relief fund was able to deliver over 245 grants directly to people personally impacted and in need of help and relief.
